Nature Photography Day 2012 from Rick Brown on Vimeo.
My chosen method to celebrate Nature Photography day in 2012 was to do my first day of dragonfly photography for this year. It was hot and tiring, but a lot of fun.
Unfortunately, the dragonflies weren’t very cooperative this time and I didn’t make that many dragonfly images, some, but not as many as I had hoped. Bees and spiders went very well though. With these animals the hang around the flowers strategy worked very well and I spent a lot of time at the wild roses.
It felt good to get back to this sort of photography that my recent book, Insects in a Flash, was based on. If you watch the video, you can see precisely the in the field workflow I describe in the book. I wrote most of the book while it was still too wet and cold to photograph dragonflies. This keeps it in my mind how much I enjoy this sort of work without allowing me to do it. That’s why it was so good to get out and photograph some bugs on Nature Photography Day 2012.
